About We Can Fish, Incorporated

About Us: We Can Fish is a nonprofit organization that offers free fishing events to teach children with disabilities how to fish. We include the entire family in an effort to help them relax, bond, and enjoy the outdoors. Caring for a child with special needs can be stressful, and our free events provide a peaceful escape and a supportive community experience. We Can Fish serves children with disabilities across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. With over 7,400 students with disabilities in our three local school districts, the need for inclusive outdoor opportunities continues to grow. In 2024, we served 200 children and their families at four fishing events across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.  Last year we served  300 children with disabilities in 5 events. With your help, we can add more events this year. The We Can Fish Experience: 1.  Children are paired with a (volunteer) casting partner who teaches them the basics of fishing. 2.  Participants receive a fishing pole, bait, and a WCF fishing cap and tee-shirt. 3.  We provide breakfast and lunch for everyone. Children participate in Arts & Crafts activities. 4.  The day ends with an awards ceremony, where each child takes a photo with their casting partner and receives a certificate. Our Philosophy: WCF events are about more than fishing. Children with disabilities often face challenges, including social isolation, that lead to reduced self-esteem and a diminished quality of life. At our events, kids learn about patience and teamwork. WCF provides a calm environment for physical activity that promotes the relaxation and concentration that’s critical for their holistic development. Goals for Growing our Organization: WCF is always looking for ways to add events. Our fishing trips are popular and we’re expanding geographically. We don’t ever want to turn kids away. Testimonials The Big Bear event was an amazing experience from start to finish. great energy, amazing volunteers. I was very, very impressed." What “verified” means: Identity confirmed against IRS records. Participation confirmed against CV Giving Day registration. Public information compiled from the organization's own sources. Organizations that have indicated a preference against search indexing on their CV Giving Day registration are excluded from search indexing and from this site's sitemap. A cause may come from the organization's own category selection, from its IRS classification, or from CV Giving Day review; the source is always stated on the page and in this record.
