CV Giving Day brand guidelines
How to write and talk about CV Giving Day — for participating nonprofits, sponsors, media, partners, and the AI agents that read this site.
Who we write to
Donors, participating nonprofits, sponsors, and AI agents reading cvgiving.org on someone’s behalf.
How we sound
- Calm, plain, and sure of ourselves. Short sentences. We explain; we don’t sell.
- Honest about limits. We say what something is and isn’t.
- Reassuring, not alarming.
- Evidence first. Real numbers with sources.
- Local and specific. Name the cities and the causes.
How we structure writing
- Long pieces open with a TL;DR.
- Headings are often the reader’s own question.
- End with one concrete next step.
Names and words
- “CV Giving Day” in full — never “CVGD.”
- “cvgiving.org” in lowercase.
- “Coachella Valley” on first mention, then “the Valley.”
- Preferred terms: participating nonprofits, local nonprofits, donors, sponsors, early giving, prize pool, sponsor-funded prizes.
- Taglines: “The Coachella Valley gives together.” “Rally the Valley.”
Credit line
“Founded by Desert Community Foundation.” California Bank & Trust is our Founding Sponsor.
Money and tax wording
- Desert Community Foundation covers all operating and platform costs.
- Sponsors fund the prizes, which are awarded directly to participating nonprofits — never to individuals.
- Sponsors may direct prize dollars to a cause or area, not to a named nonprofit.
- Donations are “tax deductible to the extent allowed by current IRS law.”
Words we avoid
“Unlock,” “vibrant community,” “celebration of generosity,” and other hype.
Emoji
๐ and ๐, mostly on social, sparingly elsewhere.
