From magnificent dark and starry skies, to breathtaking views, to some of the most incredible plants and animals in the world, the California desert gives us so many gifts . And now, it’s our turn to give to ensure this fragile and precious land can be enjoyed for generations to come. The Mojave Desert Land Trust’s mission is to protect the desert’s ecosystem and its scenic and cultural resource values. We do this through: Land Acquisition - Purchasing ecologically sensitive and diverse parcels of land from willing sellers which, in most cases, is conveyed to the National Park System or Bureau of Land Management. In some cases, we retain land that does not meet conveyance standards so we can protect resources. Land Stewardship - We care for the land we acquire through cleanup, restoration, research, and more. Native Plant Restoration - We grow native plants to help restore habitats, bank seeds to ensure that we can grow native (and sometimes endangered) plants, and educate the public. Education - We help others become good stewards of the land through outreach, educational programs for underserved youth and others, campfire talks, and more. Public Policy and Advocacy - We work to ensure that land and wildlife are protected at the legislative level. The work we do can be complicated, but our goal is simple: we want to take care of the desert that has given so much to all of us. We do this: Because We Love This Land.
