GPL-Grandparents Love

Every grandparent remembers the moment they thought their parenting days were behind them. But for thousands of grandparents in our community, life had other plans. They stepped forward — out of love, out of duty, out of sheer determination — to raise their grandchildren when no one else could.

About GPL-Grandparents Love

Every grandparent remembers the moment they thought their parenting days were behind them.  But for thousands of grandparents in our community, life had other plans. They stepped forward — out of love, out of duty, out of sheer determination — to raise their grandchildren when no one else could. GrandParents Love (GPL) exists for them. We lift up grandparents who have taken on the extraordinary responsibility of raising a new generation, often with limited income, limited support, and unlimited love. Many are living on less than $25,000 a year, yet the cost of caring for even one grandchild can add $5,492–$7,813 annually. The financial strain grows with every child they welcome into their home. And despite doing the same work as foster parents, these grandparents receive only $300–$330 per child, compared to the $820 provided in the foster care system. Still, they show up. They sacrifice. They love fiercely. GPL steps in to make sure they don’t have to do it alone. We provide: • Respite care so grandparents can rest and recharge • Mental health support to help them navigate the emotional weight of caregiving • Support groups and resources that build community and reduce isolation • Practical assistance that keeps households stable and families together Research shows that children raised by grandparents feel more loved, experience greater stability, and have fewer behavioral challenges. When you support GPL, you’re strengthening not just a household — you’re strengthening an entire community. Because when you lift up a grandparent, you lift up a whole family. Testimonials "When my daughter was killed, by her husband, everything inside me broke. My four grandchildren were living in Indio, CA at the time, and I was in Utah — too far away when they needed me most. I moved to Indio immediately because I couldn’t let them face any more loss alone. All I seen were a bunch of "No's" — no stability, no routine, no sense of how to start over while all of us were grieving. A friend saw how overwhelmed I was and nominated me for a GPL‑GrandParents Love award. GPL stepped into my life at a moment when I didn’t even know what to ask for. They helped us get what we needed to settle in, connected me with emotional support, and made sure my grandchildren felt safe again. They didn’t just offer assistance — they offered compassion, dignity, and a reminder that we weren’t alone. GPL helped me find the strength to keep going for my grandkids. In the darkest moment of our lives, they brought light back into our home."

About this page — why it exists, and what it does (and doesn't) do

This profile is provided by CV Giving Day — an initiative of Desert Community Foundation — as a benefit of participating in the Valley's day of giving. It makes GPL-Grandparents Love easy for AI assistants to find, understand, and recommend as more people research their giving through agents. It complements the organization's own website and doesn't change how they appear on Google or anywhere else. Run a Valley nonprofit? Sources and record information

Organization information is based on CV Giving Day registration records and public IRS records.

What “verified” means: Identity confirmed against IRS records. Participation confirmed against CV Giving Day registration. Public information compiled from the organization's own sources. Organizations that have indicated a preference against search indexing on their CV Giving Day registration are excluded from search indexing and from this site's sitemap. A cause may come from the organization's own category selection, from its IRS classification, or from CV Giving Day review; the source is always stated on the page and in this record.
