"short_description": "Hanson House is a \"home away from home\" providing housing and related services for the loved ones of critically ill and injured hospitalized patients.",
"about": "Hanson House is a \"home away from home\" providing housing and related services for the loved ones of critically ill and injured hospitalized patients. We also serve the needs of Cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatment, parents of newborn babies critically ill in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Our services are provided at low or no cost in our facility directly adjacent to Desert Regional Medical Center. No one is turned away because of an inability to pay.\nIn times of distress, when a cherished family member faces the challenges of illness or an unfortunate accident, the profound impact resonates within the hearts of those who care. The anguish experienced by families is intensified by the shadows of fear, uncertainty, and bewilderment that accompany such trying times. Often, the imperative for medical treatment compels families to navigate both financial and emotional burdens, especially when the facilities offering essential care are situated far from home.\nAmidst this tumultuous journey, individuals find themselves confined to hospital waiting rooms, where the days blur into nights, and makeshift accommodations become the norm. The daunting question of \"where will we stay, and how will we afford it\" echoes through the corridors of their concerns, seeking solace and answers. It is precisely in response to this poignant call that the Hanson House Foundation emerged, a beacon of hope and support for families facing the arduous trials of medical crises.\nEstablished with a compassionate vision in 2003, Hanson House extends its embrace to families arriving in Palm Springs under the weight of challenging medical circumstances affecting their beloved kin. Palm Springs is home to the Desert Regional Medical Center, housing the sole designated Level I Trauma Center and the exclusive Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit within the expansive Coachella Valley. The Comprehensive Cancer Center within its precincts offers cutting-edge technologies and treatments for cancer patients, drawing individuals from considerable distances in pursuit of life-saving care.\nIn the resort oasis that is Palm Springs, housing is often an insurmountable obstacle, either financially out of reach or simply unavailable to the families accompanying their loved ones in their time of need. Hanson House, as a haven for these weary travelers, extends the gift of respite and support. Within the tranquil confines of our sanctuary, every guest is provided with a private casita, access to a well-stocked pantry and inviting dining area, WIFI connectivity, laundry facilities, and, above all, the tender care and understanding of our dedicated volunteer staff. Our commitment to service knows no bounds, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, ensuring that families find a nurturing haven whenever they need it, without the burden of exorbitant costs.\nAnnually, Hanson House opens its doors to over 750 individual guests, representing the family members of patients undergoing treatment at Desert Regional Medical Center and neighboring hospitals. We generously offer more than 4,200 room nights of solace to over 300 patient families hailing from the Greater Coachella Valley and surrounding regions, including those from Banning, Whitewater, Calimesa, and Moreno Valley. The Hanson House Foundation stands as a testament to the power of compassion and community, providing a home away from home for those traversing the tumultuous landscape of medical crises.\nTestimonials\nMy daughter's good friend, Heather, age 42, has been diagnosed with an aggressive estrogen positive breast cancer. It's been bad enough to fight this disease, but she is constantly fighting with the insurance company and their refusal to pay for her treatment deemed necessary. On top of everything else, Heather lives miles away from her treatment center. Friends had set up a go fund me page. I also wanted to help in someway. I made an arrangement with the Hanson House, where Heather had previously stayed at during chemo. The wonderfully helpful exec director, Ivonne Moreno, said that if I made a donation, it would directly benefit Heather. This has been the gift that keeps on giving. Knowing that Heather can stay while treatment continues has been such a gift. She raves about the Hanson House and she is so appreciative to be able to stay there and be under their care. As for me, to see my gift give relief on a personal level is the best thanks I could receive.\nR. Brod\n\nDear Hanson House Team,\nI want to sincerely thank you for providing a home away from home during one of the most challenging times in my life. Staying at Hanson House for three months allowed me to be present for my son\u2019s progress in the NICU, and the warmth, support, and care from your staff made all the difference for me, my family, and especially my micro-preemie Mateo, born at 26 weeks. Your kindness and comfort created a safe haven that I will never forget.\nBrenda G.",
