## About Desert Autism Foundation

The mission of the Desert Autism Foundation is to help local families dealing with the challenges of raising a child with Autism by making therapies more affordable. What's unique about the funds we raise is that they stretch further through our efforts to negotiate special rates through some of the local occupational, music, speech and social therapists. That means every dollar that is raised equates to a much higher value in services to local children with autism. Parents are able to access these therapists through a small copay verses their full hourly rates - allowing for affordable, consistent therapy that can truly change these kids' lives.

Autism is a developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. Autism impacts the normal development of the brain in areas of social interaction and communication skills. A person with Autism may exhibit repeated body movements, unusual responses to people or attachments to objects, and resistance to changes in routine. Autism has been estimated to occur in as many as 1 in 68 individuals and is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the country.

A child is diagnosed with Autism every 20 minutes.

Sincerely,
