CV Giving Day, an initiative of Desert Community Foundation. Each answer names its source.

## About CV Giving Day

### What is CV Giving Day?

CV Giving Day is the Coachella Valley's 24-hour online giving day, held on the first Tuesday of March, with weeks of early giving before it. It brings people together to support participating nonprofits across nine Coachella Valley cities. It is an initiative of Desert Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 95-4725924).

### When is the next CV Giving Day?

Tuesday, March 2, 2027, for 24 hours. Early giving runs February 2 – March 2, 2027.

### Who runs CV Giving Day, and who pays for it?

Desert Community Foundation runs CV Giving Day. Desert Community Foundation underwrites the event and platform costs, and sponsors fund the prizes, so sponsor prize dollars reach participating nonprofits in full. California Bank & Trust is the founding sponsor.

### How much has CV Giving Day raised?

In 2026, CV Giving Day raised $1,008,700 from 1,395 donors across 173 participating nonprofits. Since 2023 it has raised $3M+.

## For donors

### How do I donate?

Every participating nonprofit has its own giving page on Mightycause, the giving platform. Find a nonprofit in the directory, choose Give, and check out. Gifts made during early giving and on CV Giving Day count toward CV Giving Day.

### Is my donation tax-deductible, and will I get a receipt?

Yes. Donations made on Mightycause are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Mightycause emails a receipt automatically when you give, and individuals are receipted for 100 percent of their donation, including if they covered the processing fee. Your annual giving statement is in the Donation history tab of your Mightycause account.

### What if I do not get my receipt?

Check your junk or spam folder, and if you use Gmail, the Purchases tab. If you gave as a guest, a typo in your email address can stop it arriving. Email support@mightycause.com from the address you used to give and they will resend it.

### Who processes my gift, and how does it reach the nonprofit?

Gifts are processed by Mightycause. Mightycause batches funds together and the Mightycause Charitable Foundation regrants them to the nonprofit.

### How much of my gift reaches the nonprofit? Are there fees?

Mightycause charges 6.0% + $0.30 per gift for credit-card and transaction processing. At checkout, donors are asked whether they would like to cover it, so the nonprofit receives 100% of the intended gift; in 2026, more than 88% of donors did. Desert Community Foundation and California Bank & Trust earn no revenue from donations, and Desert Community Foundation underwrites the event and platform costs, so sponsor prize dollars reach participating nonprofits in full.

### How do I know a nonprofit is legitimate?

Each profile shows the organization's name and EIN. Its identity is confirmed against IRS records and its participation against CV Giving Day registration. You can also check any organization yourself with the IRS Tax-Exempt Organization Search, ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer, or the organization's Form 990.

### What is early giving, and do early gifts count toward prizes?

Early giving runs February 2 – March 2, 2027, ahead of CV Giving Day. Gifts made during early giving count toward prizes. Some prizes may also be awarded during early giving, and details are announced closer to the date.

### How do prizes work?

Sponsors fund the prize pool, and every sponsor dollar becomes prize money awarded directly to participating Coachella Valley nonprofits. The prize amounts, categories and how winners are chosen for 2027 are being finalized with sponsors and will be published here.

### Are gifts matched?

Participating nonprofits can arrange matching grants with their own supporters and show them on their Mightycause page. When a match is live, donors see a badge on the Donate button and the page shows how much of the match remains. Mightycause's matching tool is for display and reporting only. The matching gift itself comes from the nonprofit's grantor.

### Can I raise money for a nonprofit with my friends, family or coworkers?

Yes. This is called peer-to-peer fundraising. On Mightycause, anyone with an account can start a fundraising page for a participating nonprofit, set a goal, tell the story, and share it with friends, family or coworkers. Gifts to your page go directly to that nonprofit. You can also join or start a team, which brings several fundraisers together toward a shared goal, with a leaderboard to track progress. Before you choose a nonprofit, check its name, city and EIN, because Mightycause cannot move a donation once it has been made.

### Can I give outside the CV Giving Day dates?

Yes. Outside the CV Giving Day dates, you can give directly to the nonprofit you wish to support. Visit the participating nonprofit's own website to find out how.

### How do I find nonprofits for a cause or in my city?

Browse the directory by cause, such as housing and homelessness, children and families, health, education, arts and culture, and animals, or by city, such as Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Indio and Coachella.

### I want to make a larger gift or set up a fund. Who do I contact?

Contact Desert Community Foundation. Mary Panesar, Executive Director, can discuss donor-advised funds, appreciated securities and planned gifts: mpanesar@desertfoundation.org.

## For nonprofits

### Who can register for CV Giving Day 2027?

Organizations must be a 501(c)(3) public charity and provide services or programs within the Coachella Valley. Religious organizations may participate when donations support community programs such as food pantries. Organizations may not discriminate on the basis of protected statuses such as race, sex, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity. Prize eligibility has additional requirements, listed on the registration page.

### When and how do I register?

Early registration opens Tuesday, November 3, 2026 and closes Tuesday, February 23, 2027. You register on cvgivingday.org (Mightycause), not on cvgiving.org: select the registration button, log in or create a Mightycause account, and complete the form. Returning organizations should use the email address they used before.

### Does it cost anything to register?

No. There is no registration fee. Participating takes time and attention, not money. Gifts to your organization carry the platform's card-processing fee, which donors are invited to cover at checkout.

### How do I know whether I am registered?

Sign in to the CV Giving Day site and open your organization's Overview page on your Mightycause dashboard. It shows one of four statuses: registration is open, your registration is incomplete, your registration is pending (submitted and waiting for approval), or your organization is registered.

### What do I need to get started?

Most 501(c)(3) public charities already have a Mightycause page, imported from IRS records. Search for your organization by EIN and select Manage This Organization. Mightycause reviews administrator requests, which can take 24 to 48 hours, and up to 10 people can be administrators. If your organization is not listed, you can apply for a new organization page, and Mightycause may ask for additional documentation.

### What is a verified profile, and how do I correct mine?

Each nonprofit in the directory has a verified public profile: name, EIN, founding year, cause, programs and services, areas served, and CV Giving Day fundraising history. It is built from CV Giving Day registration records, your Mightycause profile and official campaign results, so you do not maintain a second website or fill out extra forms. To correct something, update your Mightycause profile. The directory syncs from it weekly. You can also email cvgivingday@desertfoundation.org.

### When does a nonprofit receive the money from CV Giving Day gifts?

Mightycause disburses CV Giving Day funds after it reconciles the event's accounting. Nonprofits receive their funds between four and eight weeks after the event ends.

### Is there training for participating nonprofits?

Yes. Two webinars are planned. Dates are tentative: Getting Started Platform Overview on Friday, November 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific, and Fundraising Tools on Friday, January 8, 2027 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific. Sign-up details will be announced.

### Is there a kickoff event?

Yes. A community night for eligible and participating nonprofits and their guests is planned for Wednesday, February 3, 2027 at Acrisure Arena. More details will follow.

## For sponsors

### How do I become a sponsor, and what does it cost?

Sponsor positions are Diamond at $100,000 (one position), Platinum at $50,000, Gold at $25,000 and Silver at $10,000. Custom sponsorships can be built around your goals. Email hello@cvgiving.org.

### Where does sponsor money go?

Every sponsor dollar becomes prize money awarded directly to participating Coachella Valley nonprofits. Desert Community Foundation underwrites the event and platform costs.
